Propaganda In Toronto Star
The Toronto Star published a call to arms against the Americans in its Religion section on Saturday October 2, 2004.
In Why Najaf is holy to Muslim sensibilities, Javed Akbar claims that Muslims are mad at Americans for attacking the the Imam Ali Mosque in Najaf. He doesn't mention that Moqtada Al-Sadr turned it into an armed camp first.
Javed demonstrates that the defence of holy places is normal and common to many peoples. But he doesn't mention that when militant Sikhs took over the Golden Temple, Indira Ghandi attacked them with a much more determined force than the Americans are using against Al-Sadr's ignorant crew.
According to Javed, any friction between Sunnis and Shiites is American propaganda. And the insurgents are nice guys who only fighting because they want their country back. He didn't mention the many Iraqis these vile creatures have killed.
Instead, he bemoans the fact that up till now Muslims have merely beaten their breasts in empty frustration. He hopes that in the future, Iraqi "initiative" expressed through their "spiritual tradition" will transform Iraq into a paradise. Of the Osama variety, no doubt.
I was sorry to see that this man holds an official position in a local relgious centre. That's a shame.
